01 / NOTESIGians

Start with
the relationship.

Factorisation

x² + 5x + 6
2 + 3 = 52 × 3 = 6

Find two numbers whose sum is 5 and whose product is 6.

(x + 2)(x + 3)
02 / CLASSIFIED QUESTIONSALGEBRA

Same idea.
A new question.

Factorise each expression.

  1. x² + 7x + 12
  2. x² − 5x + 6
  3. x² + x − 6

Write the steps. Check by expanding.

03 / EXAM TECHNIQUEWORKED EXAMPLE

Make the
working count.

Solve the equation.

x² + 5x + 6 = 0
(x + 2)(x + 3) = 0
x + 2 = 0 or x + 3 = 0
x = −2 or x = −3

Give both solutions.
